Rev. Herbert D. Edmondson, III is a native of Connecticut. He earned his Associate and Bachelor Degrees from the Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut; the Master of Divinity Degree from Virginia Union University, Richmond, Virginia; and, most recently, completed the Pastoral Care Program at Yale University. Rev. Edmondson is also a candidate for the Doctor of Ministry Degree at Howard University.
Rev. Edmondson received his call at the age of eighteen and preached his initial sermon at Union Baptist Church in Stamford, Connecticut at the age of twenty-three. His pastorates include Third Baptist Church, Hampton, Virginia and New Shiloh Baptist Church Turner’s Station, Baltimore, Maryland. He served as Executive Pastor of Union Baptist Church, Stamford, Connecticut.
Rev. Edmondson serves American Baptist Churches USA, as Chairperson of the World Relief Committee; Board Member on Board of International Ministries; Member of the General Board and was recently appointed First Vice Moderator for Area V of American Baptist Churches of the South. Rev. Edmondson previously served American Baptist Churches USA as a Board Member of the American Baptist of Connecticut; Committee Member of the Board of International Ministries; Nominating Committee Member, ABC General Board; and Moderator for East Asia/India. He now serves as Vice-Moderator at Large of the First United Baptist District Association and an Executive Committee Member for the Hampton University Minister’s Conference.
Rev. Edmondson was blessed to come from a long line of distinguished preachers. His grandfather, The Right Reverend Herbert D. Edmondson, Sr. was the Episcopal Archbishop who ordained Desmond Tutu as Bishop of South Africa.
Rev. Edmondson is married to the former Erica Washington and they have two children, Kayla and Elijah.
